Each sculpture I create incorporates 300-1000 individual recycled & scrap steel pieces which are each ground, welded & heat treated to cast a one-of-a-kind patina on the sculpture that is both colorfully reflective & deeply textured. I primarily weld from the back, so there are times when I don’t know what the finished product will look like until I flip it over. My process is to work with the random shapes, forms & textures of steel I have on hand, piecing them together on a large worktable as if putting together a puzzle, letting the metal itself tell me what it wants to be. And for this reason, no two pieces are alike. I especially love working with mirrored steel as the reflectiveness is dazzling when used in outdoor kinetic sculptures. My pieces are inspired by the works of Picasso, cubism, science & nature.
